It’s been a while! Exams are now over, so music and reviews shall be flying off the wall! Hearts and Plugs asked me to check out Michael Flynn a while ago, with his new track Holy Ghost taken from his debut, solo LP Face In The Cloud out July 15th. Holy Ghost plays on nostalgic, late 80’s game music with darker, more suggestive, seedy lyrics:
Don’t be afraid If I lean in to whisper, I’m the flash of grey in the background of your every picture, I’m your holy ghost.
Each aspect of the song feels uncomfortably strange, yet enchantingly familiar with steady electronic drum beats, matching post-mario themed electronics for a misguiding compression of the narrative, as a new essence of the track appears after each play.
