Must For 2015 – IYES

It’s official, Brighton is the new B-town.2012-13 may have Birmingham’s time to shine, but 2014 has been the year of Brighton and this looks set to continue with a slew of fresh, invigorating new talent, especially the stunning duo that is IYES.

Josh Christopher & Melis Soyaslanová aka IYES have been producing their electronica fusion for the best part of two years now, with admirable comparisons to Broods, SOHN and slight hints of Disclosure, (maybe more MK-ish). Their take on electronica, pop and house varies from thumping, summer styled anthems, to dramatic pieces that resonate, the unchallenged bleakness of gloom-pop (or a typical British summer).

On their demo Toys, mixed loops, deep house beats and crystal castles-esq electronic tampering, created a ready-made pop hit, with a nostalgic closeness to AlunaGeorge (minus the vocal dis-figuration). Following this with the lucid atmosphere of Breathe, that contains the drama of SOHN and softly touched vocals, reminiscent of Broods’ Georgia Nott, IYES appear un-phased by their relatively short appearance on the electronica, pop scene.

If you’re thinking, ‘two stellar tracks in a row, it’s a fortunate fluke’, then IYES have you beat with their cover of Beyoncé’s Crazy In Love, providing an unparalleled delicateness and beauty to this bursting pop anthem. Now on their latest single Glow, a near literal explosion of synths and Josh’s vocals, creates an immediate urgency for the festival season to begin once again, so crowds filled with neon rave paint can lose their minds.

It’s impossible to predict the future, but IYES are fully in control of their own. Now signed to Sony, it’s now a matter of when, for the duo’s electronica to explode into the mainstream. Expect revamping of old releases Lighthouse and Daddy, along with even greater work from this duo of future hit-makers in the summer time.

  • What can I expect?

Ambient electronica, that’s seasoned with house beats and a killer pop style that is near-unrivalled.

  • When will they release new stuff?

Their 3rd(ish) single Glow came out in early November, so expect possible EP/album details in the near future.

  • Where can I find their music?

Soundcloud for their official work, but they’ve got plenty of older tracks lying around YouTube, so go hunting.

  • Will I like them?

For fans of: Broods, Disclosure, SEASFIRE, pop music in general.
