We’re No Heroes – Voodoo

It’s been a while since Velvet was rocked by the likes of Cardiff based group We’re No Heroes, with their last single Dark Dive. No finally with a new release (out now) through Spiral Icon titled Voodoo, We’re No Heroes are stepping into the territory of rising indie stars, Sundara Karma.

Voodoo begins with an instantly ear catching opener, a quick note sliding into a delicious riff, that draws similarities to Foal’s My Number and Daft Punk’s Get Lucky (just listen to how familiar the groove sounds). Then in Voodoo’s chorus, the similarities to Sundara Karma’s Flame takes place, as a perfected sing along verse is instantly amplified with the ringing guitar hooks and skipping riffs that switch between classic indie styles and more contemporary math rock structures.

It’s an instant crowd pleaser for sure, a definite earworm that would be warmly welcomed on a BBC intro stage.
