The follow-up to Daze Of Youth (released in October), Light Up is Satires next step towards a bright future.
While it may not contain the ‘new-indie’ vibe of Daze Of Youth, there’s something to be said about music that is simple, yet allows itself to be open to a whole world of interpretations. It’s an easy enough piece to follow, with delicate guitar hooks that link closer to math-rock meets dream-pop, and short choruses that provide bursts of energy while remaining calm and omnipresent.
The simple nature of Light Up is what’s most appealing however. While another Daze Of Youth would be great, you wouldn’t expect every track to be as energetic in the same way. Using Light Up’s calmer demeanour with a momentary guitar breakdown towards the ending, Satires have balanced out the indie-pop energy of Peace with counter B-town band Swim Deep. They’ve made the best of both worlds really.
