The guitarist for both Bells Atlas and Astronauts, Derek Barber’s pseudonym of Perhapsy, is a complete u-turn on both groups styles, and All My Soul Swallowed is a rather beautiful piece of lo-fi pop.
While beautiful may be an unusual word to describe the story behind All My Soul Swallowed, (it’s about the death of a friendship), Barber’s vocals are soft and glazed over with luke-warm lo-fi, creating a comforting image of fading sunsets and retiring camp-fires. Guitar riffs that resonate the lo-fi rock style of FANS, while equally matching the calming lulls of Gleemer’s slower tracks, creates the blissful surroundings to Perhapsy’s downtrodden story of unequal friendship, and the impending memory of realities that were only ever dreams, in this lo-fi pop, summer coo.
