This weeks Bandcamp Presents… features London grime duo, Subculture Sage and their free mixtape, Big Smoke Autumn Blues.
Made up of producer Subculture Sounds and MC Hypeman Sage, Subculture Sage mix together a series of London’s ever evolving grime scene, as sub-dub house collides together with deep garage and classic grime across their fourteen track mixtape.
Originating back in 2013, Subculture Sage have created some serious attention, gathering support from John Kennedy, BBC Radio 1’s Rob Da Bank, NME and a few other major names as well.
Big Smoke Autumn Blues is a culmination of two years worth of work, following their debut, self titled EP, released back in 2014. Tracks Gold and Pitch Black are the instant go to for a mix of quick fire, classic grime, meets trip-hop similar to Death Grips, especially on Gold, while Pitch Black throws together cut throat lyrics, subversive beats and siren calling electronics, as well as a cut to Bieber, for some blood pumping grime, that easily places Subculture Sage as one of hip-hop/grime’s biggest upcoming names.
