Some stellar work from London duo Majik on their latest track Closer.
Scarce minimalistic beats, are the go to currently for rising pop star groups, following the pursuit of acts such as The 1975 and The xx. While this trend may be easy enough to follow, its biggest problem lies within its own simplicity. Emerging groups quickly become locked into this ‘minimal work with maximum output’ take on pop, which just doesn’t work well for more than one song honestly.
Thankfully, Majik appear to be showing that this duo aren’t one of these groups, showcasing a luxurious r&b tinged edge on Closer. The slow, harmonious union of Marcus’ vocals and Jamie’s simple yet beautiful production on Closer is tantalisingly exciting, setting a crave for even more delicate pop music from the formerly Leeds centred duo.
