Oyster Kids – Gum (Everybody’s My Friend)

The home of pristine finesse and trend followers, LA’s love for sameness doesn’t seem to be a concern for Oyster Kids on their latest track, Gum (Everybody’s My Friend).

Describing the track to COS as their “summer anthem for misfits everywhere.”, the LA duo show no qualms when it comes to making their pop music stand out in California’s ‘trend capital’.

A sophisticated sense of poise and self-assurance shows throughout Gum, as effortlessly delivered vocals join together with crunchy bass notes that feel closer to early Cage The Elephant. While a momentary lift in pitch during the chorus, relives the cooler side of Foster The People’s earlier releases, Gum’s approach to pop music with a slacker-esque feel, challenges the notion of constantly going LA pop music, as this LA duo show that simple pop can still be exciting and different.
