Jett Kwong- Away
A kaleidoscope of ambient pop melodies finds LA’s Jett Kwong “exploring the mundanity and frustration we experience working towards our aspirations” on her latest single ‘Away’. Trained in the use of a guzheng, the multi-string elements of ‘Away’ help illuminate the notion of minimising creativity and aspirations, simply to continue living in the mundane normality of “eat to live” modern society. A luscious blend of choir styled harmonies and metronome timed beats, ‘Away’ transforms the normality of everyday life into something altogether much more inspiring.
Super Paradise – 6:30
A Milanese duo now based in London, Francesco Roma and Nicolò Spreafico take garage-rock to a unique new level, littering highly stylised visuals and scattered audio cuts into their videos whenever possible. Inspired by a Caribbean dance move, “6:30” captures the weirdest of times, with dirty, energetic garage riffs, mutilated with flashes of electronica and environmental sounds, projecting the moment where partiers cross paths with those who are just beginning their day.
Twin Dive – Joy Will Follow
With a classic, face wrenching, gut busting rock ‘n’ roll sound, Aarhus’ Twin Dive are a force to be reckoned with. Lithuanian and Icelandic by descent, Robert Jancevich and Ragnar ‘Raggi’ Gudmunds’ work on ‘Joy Will Follow’ takes the classic sound of Motörhead or Black Sabbath, pieced together with a much more contemporary punk influence for a truly weighted punch on this pristine take on classic rock.
Blushing – Dream Merchants
This Austin based duo of duos, takes form from the marital couples of Michelle and Jake Soto, and Christina and Noe Carmona who joined together after Michelle and Christina began collaborating back in 2015. Now in 2019, ‘Dream Merchants’ delivers a gloriously hazy slice of moody, alternative pop from the Texan group, layered beautifully for an authentic, nostalgic nod to the early 90’s.
Talk Time – Year Of Self
Now to finish off this weeks issue, LA based Talk Time, deliver an equally charming video to match the light, joy oriented vibe of their newest single ‘Year Of Self. Taken from their EP of the same title, ‘Year Of Self’ is as reflective as its title may suggest, however, rather than ponder through far out electronica, Talk Time take charming, chilled out indie pop, slowing it down just enough to deliver a funk-psych influenced sound that is worthy of capturing both a lazy, cloud gazing day and a eventful, upbeat party.
