After emerging as the winner of The Voice UK back in 2018; with her “Racing Cars” EP securing her chart success, the Essex artist reminds us to take a step back on new single ‘My Sunrise’.
With a scintillating husky vocal to begin ‘My Sunrise’, any new listeners could easily believe they were actually listening to Hannah Reid from London Grammar, however, once Ruti begins to sway to the rhythm of her slick R’n’B beats, the pacing of ‘My Sunrise’ reflects that of a fading sunset. Gradually creeping beneath the horizon in a dazzling display of awe-struck beauty, Ruti delivers a stellar slice of R’n’B perfection, highly reminiscent of early Lianne La Havas.
“’My Sunrise’ isn’t really about or for anyone in particular. In some ways, I wrote it for myself,. It’s a reminder that often there’s a lot more time to do things than I think I have and have to allow ourselves to stop or slow down sometimes. Obviously, I wrote in a Covid-free time so I was imagining taking a break somewhere else for a while, but I still have to give myself space to breathe working from home, because it gets so overwhelming.”
