Steven A. Clark – Can’t Have

This is R’n’B at its best. Clark’s debut LP, The Lonely Roller, came out last Friday, so it seemed fitting to have Can’t Have as the next Catch Up post.

For an R’n’B song, nearly five minutes may seem way too long. But with Can’t Have, it’s no challenge to enjoy it, as it packs the same punch that shorter R’n’B tracks have, but with an even bigger pay off.

Clark utilises every weapon in his arsenal, whether it be the consistent mix of crashing drum claps, jingles that draw to mind M.I.A’s Paper Planes, or synths that allow the indie kids to enjoy something other than guitars, it’s near impossible to resist swaying or embracing your inner soul singer, as Can’t Have provides an inescapable, teary-eyed yet upbeat energy.
