A personal favourite on Velvet, Shunkan’s lo-fi, punk-rock blend is as gut bursting as the earliest releases from Fidlar.
With their debut tracks Wash You Away and Dust In Your Eyes, Shunkan made an instant mark into Velvet’s memories, with their similarities to The Naked & Famous being unavoidable. The Pink Noise continues on from Shunkan’s beginnings, already showing a large amount of growth, with an amplified use of reverb on their instrumentation, while modifying front-women Marina Sakimoto’s vocal, to now be more clear and powerful, while projecting her vocals with soft, delicate tones. Once the shock of hearing Sakimoto’s killer (clear) vocals wears off; you’re stuck in a near three and a half minute, pop-punk track that is as effervescent as a young, future group could be.
