Somewhat of a newcomer to the New York scene, New Jersey’s Alara directs herself with unbreakable poise and a sense of elegance on ‘A Blackened Rose’.
Having recently adopted her new moniker of Alara, the NJ performer uses her debut track to discuss heartbreak when faced with the harsh reality of being viewed as not enough, facing this realisation head on. ‘A Blackened Rose’ stands bravely, being attacked by hollowed drums attempting to break through the steady pulsation of synths, as Alara declares her love all while accepting that this isn’t enough but that she won’t be broken. The track gradually builds up with charging back beats supporting both sides of the battle, awaiting a breakthrough that feels inevitable from ‘A Blackened Rose’s’ first moments onwards. Finally towards the latter end, Alara breaks through triumphantly with an unbreakable sense of self, on this truly chilling debut track.
